On July 18, the Second Conference on Sustainable Supply Chains & Innovation opened in Beijing. The event was hosted by China Certification & Inspection Group (CCIC) and undertaken by China Quality Certification Centre (CQC).

Attendees included Zhai Qing, Deputy Director of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Population, Resources and Environment Committee and former Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment; Zhang Xiaosong, Deputy Director of the Social Responsibility Bureau of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC); Du Guogong, Deputy Party Secretary and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of SASAC Research Center; Yin Mingyu, Deputy Director of the Emergency Management Ministry International Exchange and Cooperation Center; Hu Dajian, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing; Tu Ruihe, Vice Chairman of All-China Environment Federation and former UNEP Representative to China; Zhang Minwen, Director of IFRS Foundation Beijing Office and Special Advisor to the Chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB); Li Yongji, Deputy Party Secretary and General Manager of CCIC; and Sun Yuyou, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of CCIC.

Li Yongji stated that the current global industrial landscape is undergoing profound strategic adjustments, and China is in a critical stage of accelerating the development of a modern industrial system. As an important force and core technical pillar for building national quality infrastructure (NQI), CCIC undertakes three key responsibilities in modern supply chain development: acting as the “builder” of rule systems, the “enabler” of industrial upgrading, and the “connector” of international cooperation.CCIC will work with all parties to build a new ecosystem of high-quality and sustainable supply chains. It will support the security, stability, transformation and upgrading of China’s industrial and supply chains, promote the global application of China’s self-developed standard systems, and help Chinese manufacturing move toward the high end of the global value chain.

At the meeting, several latest achievements in the fields of ESG and sustainable supply chains were released. CCIC officially released the research outcome of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission Research Center, titled Guidelines for the Construction of Sustainable Supply Chains of State-owned Enterprises, as well as the solution for the sustainable value evaluation system of supply chain enterprises (EcoVESS), and issued certificates to the first 14 enterprises of EcoVESS. This marks that EcoVESS has moved from the evaluation pilot stage to a new stage of industry application.CCIC-initiated China Sustainable Supply Chain Service Platform (CSSCP) added 13 new member units. The members cover multiple key industries such as energy, automobiles, and photovoltaics, and the ecological synergy effect of the platform continues to strengthen.The China Quality Certification Center jointly launched the Research on the Construction and Application Path of the Sustainable Development Index of the New Energy Vehicle Supply Chain project with 12 other units, focusing on the construction of a full-chain sustainable evaluation system for new energy vehicles.

In addition, the meeting released the EcoVESS-SCORE integrated solution, launched special research on the collection and application norms of trustworthy information in industrial and supply chains, and initiated the Sustainable Senior Analyst (SSA) capability evaluation project. It also issued ESG verification certificates to 6 enterprises including China State Construction.

The conference featured two special sessions: a seminar on cross-border compliance and sustainable growth for Chinese supply chain firms going global, and a roundtable discussion on building eco-friendly industrial chains for new energy vehicles. Certificates were also presented to the 21 founding members of the CSSCP.
